Company History:
Jackpot Provision Co., Inc is a wholesale/distributor of imported and
domestic meats and cheeses. The main warehouse of 20,000 square feet is
located in Chelsea Massachusetts.
The company's
strategic location in the heart of the New England Produce Center, as well
as five minutes from Boston's Logan international airport and railways,
makes Jackpot Provision a prime source for fresh cheese and gourmet
products from all over the United States as well as overseas.
The customer list includes chains of independently owned
supermarkets, fancy grocery stores, cheese shops and delis, as well as
variety store chains, cruise ship lines, food gift packaging
establishments, and approximately twenty local distributors in the New
England area.
Jackpot Provision has always been noted for the completeness of its
product line, as well as for its knowledgeable staff and prompt and
courteous service. Established in 1969 by Richard Vannelli, who went into
business as a distributor of deli meats, the firm has since grown into a
premier supplier of both imported and domestic meats and cheeses. Upon Mr
Vannelli's untimely death in 1982, his wife Carol Vannelli, succeeded him
as president. She holds a Masters Degree in Business. Carol, a self
admitted workaholic, puts in six and seven day weeks and thinks nothing of
spending hours with customers in her office. She has a genial attitude and
a good word for everyone and remains the most visible symbol of Jackpot
Provision and an expert in all aspects of its operation.
One year later, Cynthia Pacione, Carol's sister joined the business and
head of the company's gourmet division. She holds a Masters Degree in
French and Spanish and has traveled abroad extensively to enhance her
knowledge of imports.
Also joining the customer service department is David Stewart a graduate
of the Culinary Institute of America. He has gained extensive product
knowledge working as a Chef in fine restaurants in New York City and in
the Boston area.
He provides our customers with information on both the retail and food
service applications of our meats and cheeses.
Among brand names handled by Jackpot Provision are Vannelli (private label
of the company), Carando, Citterio, Swift, BCUSA, Swissrose,
Great Lakes, a large
number of specialty items, such as sun dried tomatoes, brie en croute,
tortes, creme fraiche. The list of items offered is enormous.
Periodically during the year, Jackpot Provisions presents
detailed product movement reports to each account, which chart their
item-by-item sales activity for the period under study in units, cost,
sales and dollar profit. This enables customers to gauge the direction of
their sales and profits for specific merchandise and determine where
changes in product emphasis might be most useful. Such involvement is the result of a love for the specialty food
field and the desire to keep Jackpot Provision as its front-runner.
